Sharon and Graham - Biker Sue - WPC Rice

1996 - 1999

Created by Nick 2 years ago
Sue was our friend, a keen biker and a member of the BMF, British Motorcyclists Federation. Sue joined in with many of her local BMF events in East London, normally organized by me and regional Chairman Sharon Nash.

On several occasions Sue donned a bright yellow tabard and, on her bike, marshalled Christmas Toy, and Easter Egg, motorcycle charity runs. These attracted well over a hundred fellow bikers who donated toys and Easter eggs to a local community group for the underprivileged families they supported.

Sue was a skilled and confident rider and, in her black leathers, white crash helmet and yellow tabard, she soon got the nickname of WPC Rice, giving firm but friendly directions together with a smile while she directed other road users to allow the participants of the runs to stay together as one group and flow through red lights and busy junctions with ease.  By the way, this was all done with the permission of the local police traffic department, who also joined in with the events!

As with all friendships, once she and husband Nick moved to Kent, we drifted apart but we sometimes think of WPC Rice when we see Police Motorcyclists escorting vehicles, and reflect on how much we miss those good old days.
